Once, long ago, there was a great war between two species that had always been enemies. They were of almost equal power and so they almost all died. All that were left were those that were too weak to fight and so the two species, once rulers of Earth became legends that were all but forgotten. The humans became the most powerful and rejoiced, but for some reason, maybe to forget the horrors, destroyed nearly all records of the strange creatures that used to rule their planet. These two species were the vampires and the werewolves. Now, it is the year 3008 and there have been advances in technology, but not too great. The weapons have a medieval quality about them, but are generally more powerful and surrounded by auras of electricity-like energy. Despite being so far ahead in time there have been few other advances. There are, however, almost no trees left and the world is in a sickly, dying state. With this slow and painful demise of the once blue planet the ancient creatures thought to not even exist have started to make a come back. They have almost literally risen from the ashes of the cities and prowl the streets under the cover of night and shadow. The vampires and werewolves get easy meals from killing the humans. Unlike their previous era of dominance however they have become allies. The humans don’t seem to have a chance against these two species that are so much stronger. Many cities have fallen to ruin due to lack of food and water and these ghost cities are havens for the vampires and werewolves. The two species have a capital city called Anniento. This is where the leaders of each species converse about once a month on the full moon. It was at one such gathering that they came to their first real conflict since the beginning of their second reign. The vampires much enjoy the streets and buildings of the cities, but the werewolves wish to restore the planet back to its forested state. It is at this meeting that the story begins. So imagine a medieval setting but with advanced weapons I guess while you read…

“Brother, I am nervous, I have never been to Anniento before, what is it like?” Anita whispered quietly as she and her older brother made their way down the decrepit street towards the city. “Do not worry, it is much like our city, but the buildings are crumbling and there are no humans. Be wary though sister, for the vampires are very strange.” Eric said to his sister. She was only ten, much too young to be coming to Anniento, but ever since human werewolf hunters had killed their parents earlier that year the 17 year old had to look out for his sister. As the two drew closer to the city they could hear ghostly wailings and shrieks coming from the city. This was only the second time Eric had been to the city, last year with his father, and the strange echoes of the demons that haunted the place worried him. Anita shivered and wanted to leave, but she said nothing. It had been almost a year since any one in their family had attended the gathering and she knew that by the next full moon it would be too late. The law was that a member of every family, preferably the strongest male, had to attend at least once a year to the meetings or else the family would be captured and kept in the dungeons of Anniento for a long time, or possibly be killed. Anita and her brother got to the outer walls of the city and they were stopped by two guards. “Passes please.” A vampire guard said to them. Eric pulled out his and Anita’s ID passes and showed them to the black-clad vampire. The other guard, a werewolf, looked over the shoulder of the vampire. They both seemed to believe that the passes were legitimate and so the werewolf signaled someone up on the wall and the large cast iron gates swung open. Eric and Anita walked into the city and continued down the cracked street. The moon was beginning to shine brighter as the sun fully set behind their backs to the west. In the center of the city was a large stone tower-like building where the meetings were held. “C’mon Anita, we’ve got to hurry or we’ll be late.” Eric said as his sister knelt down to pick up a small, bright stone. “Okay, let’s go.” She put the rock in her pocket and grabbed her brother’s hand. They headed down the street and the buildings slowly rose higher around them. Anita was no longer scared by the haunting noises, her curiosity had taken over and she peered into the dirty windows of the buildings. They soon reached the tower and a couple of werewolves and vampires led them to where they would sit to observe the meeting. Eric and Anita were both too young to participate, so they had to observe so that they would know what to do by the time they were 25. Nothing was really happening until the leader of the werewolves, Blood, said “After we have gotten rid of all the extra humans and have the others locked away for use we are agreed to get rid of all the unneeded cities and re-grow the forests right?” Blood seemed very certain of this, but Drago, the leader of the vampires, had different ideas. “Replenish the forests, very likely Blood.” The vampire said sarcastically. Blood growled, looking very much like a wolf despite being fully in his human form. “Oh, wow puppy, aren’t you ferocious?” Drago giggled wickedly, his voice echoing around the room. He had only been leader for a short while since his father had mysteriously disappeared and like the vampires of old, he was none too fond of werewolves. Blood stood up from his chair forcefully enough to make it fall back and Drago did the same. “What now Dog? Are you going to nip at my heels?” Blood glared, “I will not let you speak that way to me, you will regret uttering those words, but for now we must continue this meeting. My fellow werewolves and I demand that the forests be returned after we defeat the humans.” Drago just smirked and set his chair back before sitting down. “Calm down Blood, no need to make demands of me.” Drago smirked at the werewolf. His perfect features were smiling gleefully, he did so enjoy being annoying to the werewolf king. Anita clung to her brother’s arm as the two rulers argued. The haunting wails had started to make her nervous again and so did the angry voices of the vampire and the werewolf. “It’s alright Anita, Drago really just likes to annoy Blood, I don’t know that they’ll actually do anything to each other.” Eric said quietly in efforts to comfort his sister. Anita nodded, but she wasn’t very comforted. “When do we leave?” Anita whispered. Eric shook his head, “I don’t know, just be patient.” Blood looked at Drago, “The moon has become clouded, we shall postpone this meeting until the next full moon.” Blood and Drago stood, as did most of the people in the audience. The meeting had been exceptionally short with not even one topic fully discussed, but it was custom to stop the meeting if the moon was covered by clouds. The crowd began to talk and debate about the issue of the reforestation of Earth as the left the building. Anita grasped her brother’s hand tightly as the two were swept out by the crowd. She glanced fearfully around herself as her hand slipped away from Eric’s. A group of vampires got between them and she couldn’t see Eric anywhere. As Eric felt Anita’s fingers slip from his hand he turned quickly, but a large group of vampires was already between them. He pushed his way back, searching the crowded area for his younger sister. “Anita, where are you!? Anita!” Eric called out for his sister. A large werewolf bumped into him. “Watch it kid.” The werewolf shoved him away and he was pushed farther away from Anita. Anita frantically searched for her brother. She thought she heard him call to her once, but when she headed in the direction she didn’t see him anywhere. The young werewolf made her way towards one of the walls and sat down against it, silently crying. She thought she saw demons among all of the people and the moaning shrieks seemed to get louder and louder all around her. Suddenly a shadow fell across her and she looked up, hoping to see Eric, but instead it was a werewolf she did not know.
